John Greengo

The Enthusiast's Guide to Exposure

John Greengo is a photographer who specializes in photographic education, from online training to local workshops to photo tours. In his teaching, his enthusiasm for photography is readily apparent, where his unique blend of illustrations, animations, and photographs makes learning photography easy and fun.

John is a life-long resident of Seattle, Washington, and a typical Northwest outdoor adventure lover. Starting with a college degree in photography, John combined his love of photography with his enthusiasm for travel and adventure. From biking and hiking, to canoeing and kayaking, he’s undertaken a variety of journeys that has led him to the far reaches of the planet. Many of those travels came while working with world famous photographer Art Wolfe on his television show Travels to the Edge. John assisted in the production of the show and acted as Art’s all-around technical guru for all things photographic.

Alan Hess

The Enthusiast's Guide to Multi-shot Techniques

Alan Hess is a San Diego-based commercial photographer. He has photographed hundreds of concerts, three songs at a time. From small club shows to big arenas, Alan enjoys the fast pace of shooting on the fly, the rush of the house lights going down, and the drive to capture the “show” in the images of first three songs.

The wide variety of bands that Alan has shot include Billy Idol, Black Eyed Peas, Bruce Hornsby, Bullet for My Valentine, Citizen Cope, The Dead, Death Cab for Cutie, Cher, John Legend, Madonna, Marilyn Manson, Robin Williams, Slayer, Steel Pulse, Widespread Panic, and Willie Nelson, just to name a few. Alan is currently the house photographer for a large concert venue in Southern California.

When he isn’t out shooting concerts, he is writing photography books. He is the author of more than a dozen books covering everything from concert and low light photography to the basics of exposure and composition and the Nikon Creative Lighting System. Alan has contributed to Photoshop User magazine and has been a part of the Instructor Dream Team at Photoshop World since 2009.

Jerod Foster

The Enthusiast's Guide to Portraiture

Jerod Foster is a Texas-based magazine/editorial, commercial, and natural history photographer. His work has been featured in The New York TimesThe Texas Tribune, and Sports Illustrated, among others. Jerod is drawn to telling stories about human influence on the natural world, which can be seen in his agricultural work, as well as work for clients such as The Nature Conservancy, The Texas Land Conservancy, and Yeti Coolers.

Jerod is also a professor of practice at Texas Tech University, where he teaches a variety of photography and visual storytelling courses. His emphasis on visual and cultural storytelling has resulted in the formation of both professional and academic relationships worldwide.

He is the author of multiple photography books, including Storytellers: A Photographer’s Guide to Developing Themes and Telling Stories with Pictures and Color: A Photographer’s Guide to Directing the Eye, Creating Visual Depth, and Conveying Emotion.
